Manchester City are reportedly setting their sights on Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz as a long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne. The German playmaker has been in sensational form under Xabi Alonso, helping Leverkusen to a historic Bundesliga title with his creativity, vision, and technical brilliance. In a separate move, Pep Guardiola’s side are also said to be monitoring AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders as a potential replacement for Ilkay Gündoğan, who left the club for Barcelona last summer. Reijnders has quickly made an impact in Serie A with his composure, work rate, and progressive passing. His versatility and ability to contribute both defensively and offensively make him a strong candidate to fill the void left by Gündoğan in City’s midfield structure.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, both Wirtz and Reijnders are highly rated within City’s scouting department, with the club preparing early groundwork for future transfer moves. While any deal for Wirtz is likely to be expensive given his rising profile and long-term contract, Reijnders could represent a more immediate and cost-effective addition. Manchester City’s transfer strategy continues to prioritize technically gifted midfielders who fit Guardiola’s demanding system, and these two names perfectly align with that philosophy.
