Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney hailed quarterback Cade Klubnik as a future Heisman Trophy and Davey O’Brien Award winner in a daring and self-assured press release issued today. Heading into the 2025 college football season, Swinney’s comments follow a run of impressive offseason workouts and leadership performances that have pleased teammates and coaches.
Swinney remarked, “Cade has taken ownership of this team.” His preparation, work ethic, and offensive mastery are all qualities you want in a quarterback who can win a championship. He’s headed toward becoming one of the best in the nation, in my opinion.
The Heisman Trophy honors college football’s most exceptional athlete, while the Davey O’Brien Award is given to the country’s top college quarterback each year. Since taking the starting position in 2023, Klubnik has displayed glimpses of his exceptional potential, such as better pocket presence, deft decision-making, and accurate passing. Swinney obviously thinks Klubnik has what it takes to take his game to a national level with another summer of improvement.
This season, Clemson supporters have high expectations, and Swinney’s support further heightens those expectations. Even though June isn’t the time for accolades, Klubnik’s developing leadership and maturity provide the Tigers with a solid base as they get ready for a challenging ACC season. “He has the ‘it’ factor,” Swinney continued. “He is not only a gifted athlete; he is also a leader, a winner, and someone who can lead this program to its desired destination.” All eyes will be on Klubnik to deliver this fall, as expectations are already quite high. If he is as good as Swinney says he is, the hardware might follow.
