Startling News: Calton’s Top Star Says He Wants To Go Back Because He Loves His Hometown Club Marcus Rowe, the star forward for Calton FC, has shocked both fans and commentators by announcing that he wants to leave the squad and rejoin Ashton United, his hometown team. He cited emotional reasons and a strong personal bond with the team where his career started.
Following Calton’s 3-1 victory over Southbridge Rovers on Saturday, the 27-year-old, who has been a star player for the team over the previous four seasons, made the announcement in a post-match interview. In spite of his man-of-the-match performance, which included both a goal and an assist, Rowe’s attention swiftly turned from celebration to confession.
Rowe remarked, “I’ve been considering it for a while now.” I will always be appreciative of the love and support that Calton has given me. Ashton, though, is at home. My adventure began there, and I’m drawn to go back, especially in light of their recent advancements.
Before making his senior debut at the age of 17, Rowe joined Ashton United’s youth academy at the age of nine to start his football career. Larger clubs took notice of his prodigious goal scoring, and in 2020 he signed with Calton for a then-record £5.8 million transfer price. Since then, he has made 142 appearances, scoring 76 goals, and has played a key role in Calton finishing in the top four for three straight seasons.
According to people close to the player, familial factors also played a role in his choice. Rowe has previously talked candidly about the value of having a close relationship with his parents, who still live in Ashton. Furthermore, it has been reported that his connection to his hometown has been renewed due to the recent death of his grandfather, a loyal Ashton supporter.
In a succinct statement, Calton FC said, “We acknowledge Marcus Rowe’s recent remarks and value his candor. He is still a key component of our team and a contracted athlete at this time. The best course of action will be decided after internal and player discussions. Currently playing in League One, Ashton United has also shown interest. “Marcus will always be a part of the Ashton family,” said Tony Harris, the club’s chairman. If there is a chance to discuss his return, we would be delighted to do so.
Although Rowe hasn’t made a formal transfer request, there is growing conjecture that he would try to move during the summer transfer window. Since his current deal with Calton expires in June 2027, Ashton United may face difficult and costly negotiations. Fans are split for the time being, with some applauding Rowe’s devotion to his heritage and others worried about losing one of the team’s main players as Calton looks to qualify for Europe the next season.
