Unai Emery explains why Alex Moreno was not in Aston Villa squad at Chelsea

Alex Moreno’s exclusion from the team to face Chelsea is explained by Unai Emery in this article on Aston Villa from BirminghamLive.

Alex Moreno was left out of the Aston Villa team to face Chelsea, according to Unai Emery, because the left-back is “not 100 percent” prepared to play.

After being sidelined by a hamstring injury for the entirety of preseason and the beginning of the season, Moreno resumed training at Bodymoor Heath earlier this month. He suffered the injury back in May during the team’s 1-1 tie at Anfield with Liverpool, and he hasn’t played for Villa since.

Ollie Watkins’ goal in the second half gave Villa their second away victory in the Premier League this year against Chelsea. After Villa disappointed on Thursday in Poland by losing 3-2 to Legia Warsaw in the Europa Conference League, the outcome was much-needed.

Prior to Villa’s trip to Stamford Bridge, Moreno was a part of both matchday teams; however, he did not go to London with the rest of his teammates.

“His injury was very hard,” Emery said. “He’s becoming better and better, but he still doesn’t feel completely at ease playing.

“We made the decision to halt for a few days, possibly a week or two. Hopefully, he is once more on the verge of joining the squad.

Since moving to Villa in January for £13 million from Real Betis, Moreno has played in 19 games. When he is well enough to play, he will provide Villa’s manager a major boost. He was crucial to the club’s revival under Emery.

  5. First off I want to say excellent blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your head before writing. I’ve had a tough time clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out. I do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips? Cheers!
