Revealed: Leeds United man suffered “freak accident” at Thorp Arch leading to lengthy absence.

Rob Price, the head of medicine at Leeds United, has verified that Djed Spence’s knee injury resulted from a training-related incident in which a teammate landed on him.

In the recent years, Leeds has had terrible luck with injuries and has only seldom been able to compete with a squad that is fully healthy.

These discouraging setbacks are affecting Daniel Farke, although not as much as they did for other managers.

When will Djed Spence return?
Djed Spence’s protracted absence due to a knee injury received after the September international break was made public by Farke.

Spence made his club debut in the 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday off the bench and showed potential, but he now has to wait until mid-November to make another appearance.

Rob Price explains what transpired.
The way Spence got hurt isn’t the best, and Rob Price, the head of medicine at Leeds, calls it just a “freak accident”.

He discussed the incident at Thorp Arch on the official Leeds United podcast:

Djed had a terrible situation. He entered a challenging exercise last week, his foot fell out from under him, and he tore the lateral ligament in his knee.

“His foot slipped and it slips as he’s in a challenge, someone falls on his leg and pushes him into a level where the ligament can’t tolerate it, so it snaps,” the doctor said. “But what I would say about him, as with all the players, is already his attitude to doing what’s right and to making sure he’s going to be okay has been first class.”

This injury, which has kept one of our greatest players out for at least two months, pretty much sums us up.

The fact that Price appears confident that his recovery will occur within the original timeframe and that he would be available for a vital run in November is reassuring.

We need to start Spence in the Championship as soon as he’s back to full strength since he’ll make our already terrifying attack even more terrifying.
