For BBC 5 Live, Waddle was providing commentary on a historic evening at St. James’ Park.

The energy on Tyneside last night was phenomenal, and it’s difficult to overstate that.

The Newcastle crowd ensured Paris Saint-Germain knew they were in for a challenging evening as they hosted their first Champions League match in 20 years.

Last night, Luis Enrique selected a very offensive lineup with four strikers.

In actuality, they lacked any kind of consistency in their connections, and Newcastle profited.

Before Dan Burn and Sean Longstaff fulfilled every Newcastle supporter’s dream of scoring for their boyhood teams in Europe’s top league, Miguel Almiron scored the first Champions League goal of the Eddie Howe era.

The tension increased after PSG’s Lucas Hernandez score because the French champions still had time to stage a comeback.

Fabian Schar, however, delivered a thunderbolt that Chris Waddle thought was particularly impressive to give Newcastle the victory.

The £3 million defender played well defensively, but his standout play was a lovely outside-the-box goal.

He’s always had the ability, and he showed it out flawlessly last night.

“He’s just stretching as he hits it, he hits the deck, and that’s going in the top corner, and you’ve got to say over the course of the night, Newcastle United thoroughly deserve this victory.”

After Schar’s goal last night, Waddle became engrossed in the excitement at Newcastle.

With every player in outstanding form, Newcastle had a magnificent evening.

Alan Shearer was completely astounded by one of Eddie Howe’s players, while Bruno Guimares likened one to Diego Maradona.
