According to the Guardian, who also claims that England’s second-highest goalscorer (53) is now poised to take over at the Championship club, this is the case.It follows Wayne Rooney’s departure from MLS club DC United earlier this week and amid persistent rumors that a transfer to Birmingham and the English Championship was imminent.

Rooney, 37, was targeted because he had failed to advance to the MLS Playoffs in the United States for a second straight season.

According to the source, Birmingham City supporters who credit the former Watford and Stoke City player with a recent comeback would “rankle” over the decision to fire John Eustace.
