Jim McAlister, the kitman, was “unexpectedly” fired by the Rangers just before the preseason, according to The Athletic.

The source stated on October 20 that the former captain of Greenock Morton and Dundee joined Rangers as a kitman prior to his termination at the beginning of the current campaign, which brought an end to his two-year tenure at the team.

A former Liverpool kitman took McAlister’s place, however he has since joined Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia.

Unusual

Although the reason behind McAlister’s firing from the team is unclear, it seems odd that he was let go, particularly so soon before the preseason.

In order to help Jimmy Bell, the Rangers’ kitman, fulfill his “dream role,” McAlister reportedly stopped his playing career and even turned down a testimonial at Greenock Morton, according to The Sun (September 25). He became chief kitman upon Bell’s death.

His abrupt expulsion from his boyhood club seems strange because he was obviously deeply committed to it. There are many decisions taken behind closed doors that the fans are unaware of.

There is a clear dearth of Scottish and Rangers-supporting employees at the club, according to the Athletic report, and the team lost one after McAlister’s firing.

Even while the backroom doesn’t have to be filled with only Rangers fans, it helps to have staff members who are ardent followers of the team since they can inspire new players.

Though his stint away from sport was brief due to his move to Saudi Arabia, the Ibrox supporters will be interested in learning more about the circumstances behind his departure.
