DEAL: The Braves Sold out Another Shinning Star…

Baltimore Orioles Acquire Outfielder from Braves.

Braves outfielder Sam Hilliard to begin rehab assignment Tuesday

The Baltimore Orioles have made another offseason move, acquiring an outfielder from the Atlanta Braves.

A lot of eyes will be on what the Baltimore Orioles do this offseason to ensure that they become the World Series contenders that they’re expected to be.

Starting pitching seems to be at the top of their wish list as that really hindered them during their postseason elimination.

However, the Orioles second move this offseason was not for a pitcher. It comes after they acquired outfielder Sam Hilliard from the Atlanta Braves.

Hilliard was originally traded to the Braves by the Colorado Rockies last offseason in exchange for a pitching prospect.

The outfielder played 40 games with Atlanta last season before bruising his heel and being place on the injured list in July. He reinjured it during a Triple-A rehab assignment and missed the remainder of the year.

Baltimore claimed him off of waivers on Wednesday and added him to their long list of outfielders currently on the roster.

With some expectations that the Orioles could be looking to trade away some of their veteran pieces, getting Hilliard in the mix should help with their depth.

Braves: Sam Hilliard gets re-injured during rehab assignment

He’s played in the MLB for the past five seasons, accumulating a career slash line of .215/.294/.424 with 32 home runs and 77 RBI.

It’s unlikely that Hilliard will see extended playing time, if any, with Baltimore.

In a corresponding move, the Orioles have designated right-handed reliever Joey Krehbiel for assignment.

The 30-year-old only appeared in six games with Baltimore this season after fluctuating between the Major League roster and their Triple-A affiliate.

It’s an interesting move to get another outfielder in the mix when they’re already overloaded at the position.

This could suggest that there are some future moves to come, as the front office looks to upgrade this roster.
