Clayton Tune or Kyler Murray? The Arizona Cardinals had a decision to make.
ARIZONA — The Arizona Cardinals know who their starting quarterback is ahead of their Week 9 tilt against the Cleveland Browns.

Tune – the team’s fifth-round pick out of Houston – is slated to get his first start of the season after the Cardinals dealt Joshua Dobbs at the NFL’s trade deadline and Kyler Murray isn’t quite ready after recovering from a torn ACL/meniscus late last season.

Arizona – currently 1-7 and on a five-game losing streak – also signed Jeff Driskel back to the practice squad, and he’s a strong candidate to be elevated ahead of game day.

Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon’s return to Cleveland includes stop at his high school

Jonathan Gannon went home Friday, as in his hometown.

The Arizona Cardinals head coach is back in his native Cleveland this weekend, the place where his love of football began and where he first showed characteristics of a successful coach. The Cardinals flew east Friday for a two-day trip that ends right after they play the Browns on Sunday.

A multi-sport star at St. Ignatius High School near Cleveland’s city center, Gannon asked if he could bring his team to the field where he became an all-state defensive back and was part of a state championship team in 1999. St. Ignatius, which inducted Gannon into its Sports Hall of Fame in 2011, made it happen, and the Cardinals planned to take the field at the school on Saturday for a mock game.

Cardinals-Vikings joint practices carry more weight than you think

“It’ll be cool for those guys,” Gannon said this past week of the Cardinals players. “They like to see different things. And I’m sure it will stir up some thought of their high school, you know, so it’ll be a fun experience.”

Gannon downplayed his homecoming throughout the week, at least to reporters. He was asked if coming back to Cleveland as an NFL head coach has more meaning to him.

“It’s the most important (game) because it’s the next one,” he said, adding that he didn’t know how many supporters of his are going to attend the game but that he didn’t want to be bothered by anyone.

Still, a chance to take the field at his alma mater once again, with his team in a closed environment — Gannon asked that the current St. Ignatius football team not be allowed to watch the walk-through — is a unique experience.
