Matt LaFleur has led the Green Bay Packers to some fine victories over the years, but few were as dramatic as this one.
Offensively, the Packers couldn’t get out of their own way. After throwing away a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter last week, they were shut out through three quarters on Sunday. Down 17-0, the Packers were stumbling to a crushing loss in their home opener.
But this young team never gave up. Powered by a dominant defensive performance and some Jordan Love magic, the Packers overturned a 17-point deficit to stun the Saints and earn a crucial victory.
Understandably, LaFleur was emotional immediately after the game.

LaFleur spoke to Larry McCarren following the game, and he struggled to hold back his emotions after such a dramatic victory.
“I feel like I’m in a dream right now. I can’t say enough about the guys in that locker room. Trying not to get emotional about it,” said LaFleur, with a slight crack in his voice. “The resiliency they showed. The heart they showed. That’s what it’s all about right there.”
And it’s hard to blame him. It was hard enough watching as a fan. The disappointment and frustration quickly turned to hope, belief, and then joy as the Packers pulled off the most unbelievable of fourth-quarter comebacks.
“It’s almost all a blur. It definitely wasn’t how we scripted it or designed it,” LaFleur said about the fourth quarter.
In many ways, a victory like this is better than a blowout, considering how young and inexperienced this team is. They had to fight and never give up. They needed to step up when the game was on the line. They did all of those things.
LaFleur believes it will help his young Packers team.
“Oh, absolutely. Just the ‘never say die’ attitude. I’ve never been a part of a game like that before. Got to give a lot of credit to our coaching staff, just staying resilient as well, and our players, and everybody involved in this thing,” said LaFleur.
