Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Strider is the current betting favorite to win the NL Cy Young for a reason.

His ability to get through innings and strikeout opposing batters since his debut with the Braves has placed him among the elite pitchers in all of baseball.

MLB.com listed some MLB records that they want to see fall in 2024 and Strider was named as a favorite to break one of the records.

The record that they say could be broken is total strikeouts in a 9-inning game. That record is currently set at 20 by Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, Max Scherzer, and Kerry Wood. Strider holds the record for most strikeouts in a game by an Atlanta pitcher with 16. He set that against the Rockies in September of 2022.

Here’s what MLB.com said about Strider being the top candidate to break the record.

How long until pitchers and catchers report?

38 days. Atlanta’s expected to ask pitchers and catchers to report on Monday, February 12th, in advance of their first spring training game on February 24th against the Tampa Bay Rays. An official announcement of the reporting date will come in January.
