ATHENS – Kirby Smart and UGA football are losing one of it’s top recruiting assistant coaches.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday that Bryan McClendon is leaving UGA to be the receivers coach for the Tampa Bay Bucs. The move unites McClendon with former Kentucky offensive coordinator Liam Coen.
Schefter cited a source in his reporting.
The move leaves a void in the Bulldogs’ coaching roster, and comes a few days after the resignation of Scott Cochran from the program.
was in Athens for two seasons – including the Bulldogs’ undefeated run in 2022 to a national title. He was also the Dawgs’ passing game coordinator.
McClendon was at least in part responsible for the influx of a slew of transfer receivers who have come into the program via the NCAA Transfer Portal. London Humphreys, Colbie Young and Michael Jackson III all transferred into UGA while the Bulldogs signed both Nitro Tuggle and Sacovie White in the class of 2024.
