After witnessing several quarterbacks secure lucrative contracts this offseason, Aaron Rodgers is now seizing his opportunity. The Green Bay Packers have inked the two-time NFL MVP to a four-year extension worth $134 million, ensuring his presence in the team’s green and gold uniform until 2023.

According to NFL Network analyst and former teammate James Jones, the reported extension will include guarantees surpassing $100 million. Jones, who collaborated with Rodgers for a league-leading 14 touchdown receptions in 2012, was the recipient of Rodgers’ promise to break any extension news first, a commitment made back in July.

Unsurprisingly, Rodgers expressed his delight with the news, affirming his allegiance to the Packers by declaring himself a “#packerforlife” on Instagram.

When Rodgers signed a five-year, $100 million extension in 2013, he became the highest-paid player in the league. However, his status as the NFL’s wealthiest quarterback was eventually surpassed after the 2015 season by players such as Andrew Luck, Derek Carr, Jimmy Garoppolo, Matt Ryan, and Kirk Cousins. Nonetheless, Rodgers’ value to the Green Bay franchise may never have been more apparent than after the team experienced a glimpse of its future without him; the Packers posted a 4-2 record in games he completed last autumn, contrasting sharply with a 3-7 record in games where then-traded backup Brett Hundley handled most of the team’s passing duties.
