The Green Bay Packers have added wide receiver Julian Hicks and offensive lineman Lecitus Smith to their roster, along with wide receiver Dimitri Stanley. In corresponding moves, cornerback Anthony Johnson and defensive lineman Deandre Johnson have been released, and wide receiver Thyrick Pitts has been waived/injured. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced these transactions on Monday.
Dimitri Stanley, a rookie standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 200 pounds, started his college career at the University of Colorado from 2018 to 2021 before transferring to Iowa State from 2022 to 2023. During his time with the Buffaloes, he recorded 70 receptions for 820 yards, averaging 11.7 yards per catch, and scored four touchdowns. Stanley earned recognition as a redshirt freshman in 2019 when he was named to the SB Nation All-Pac-12 freshman team.
At Iowa State, Stanley appeared in 23 games, starting nine of them. He accumulated 48 receptions for 559 yards, averaging 11.6 yards per reception, and scored one touchdown. Stanley will wear jersey number 19 for the Packers.
Coach Matt LaFleur commented on the new additions after Friday’s practice, noting that discussions about their performances had already begun. He emphasized the importance of reviewing game tape to assess their contributions fully. LaFleur highlighted standout moments on the field, such as impressive catches and displays of athleticism, which have piqued the coaching staff’s interest.
Of particular note is Stanley’s lineage, as he is the son of former Packers wide receiver Walter Stanley, who was drafted by Green Bay in the fourth round of the 1985 NFL Draft and played four seasons for the team.
As the Packers head into the upcoming season, it remains to be seen if Dimitri Stanley can carve out a role for himself within the team’s roster.
