Mets Set to Finalize $130 Million Deal to Re-Sign All-Star Slugger

The New York Mets have already made headlines this offseason by landing Juan Soto and re-signing Sean Manaea. Yet, for many fans, there’s one name that stands above all others on their wish list.

While Alex Bregman has been linked to the Mets in rumors, the overwhelming sentiment among fans leans toward a reunion with Pete Alonso. After six impressive years of slugging home runs at Citi Field, Alonso remains a free agent, leaving many eager to see him back in Queens.

Unverified reports suggest the Mets have made offers to Pete Alonso, but no agreement has been reached, leaving fans speculating about the right number to bring the slugger back.

So, what could that number be? FOX Sports’ Deesha Thosar offered a prediction earlier this week, shedding light on the potential terms of a deal.

“I’ve always believed Pete Alonso would return to the Mets, and that belief hasn’t changed,” wrote FOX Sports’ Deesha Thosar.

She noted that while Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns may attempt to remove emotion from the negotiations, the deep connection between Alonso and the team could motivate owner Steve Cohen to finalize a deal around $130 million over five years.

At 30 years old, Alonso has crushed 226 home runs in a Mets uniform, just 26 shy of the franchise’s all-time record. A lineup featuring Alonso, Juan Soto, and Francisco Lindor would provide an unparalleled offensive trio, potentially aiding Alonso in his pursuit of the record in 2025.

For now, the main obstacle appears to be financial, as no other teams seem to be seriously competing for the four-time All-Star. Whether Alonso returns to Queens by Opening Day remains to be seen.
