A New York Mets insider suggests an unexpected trade for an oft-injured All-Star to replace Pete Alonso’s bat.

With Pete Alonso’s future with the New York Mets uncertain, a team insider has proposed a bold trade to fill the potential gap in the lineup left by the slugger’s power.

The Mets have had an eventful offseason so far. Along with addressing the need for three starting rotation spots, they made headlines by securing New York Yankees star Juan Soto to the largest contract in sports history.

Despite these significant moves, the Mets still face a dilemma regarding Alonso. The homegrown All-Star is seeking a contract in free agency that exceeds what team president David Stearns is willing to offer a 30-year-old first baseman. A few weeks ago, it seemed almost certain that Alonso would play elsewhere in 2025. However, the free-agent market for him has been underwhelming, giving the Mets a better chance to re-sign him. Still, recent rumors suggest that the two sides remain far apart on a deal.

To address this issue, New York Post MLB insider Joel Sherman recently proposed several potential replacement options, including a three-time All-Star the Mets nearly signed in free agency two years ago. This could provide an intriguing alternative if Alonso departs.

One of the names Sherman mentioned is Carlos Correa, the oft-injured three-time All-Star from the Minnesota Twins. Correa’s contract includes six years and $200 million, and the Twins are reportedly looking to reduce payroll, making the 30-year-old one of their highest-paid players.

Although Correa isn’t the power hitter Alonso is, his defensive upgrades and on-base potential could help replace Alonso’s bat. Despite playing just 86 games last season, Correa earned his third All-Star selection in 2024, showing he can still be an impactful player.
