The Boston Celtics now have four players, including Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, who are all among ESPN’s top 100 NBA players after acquiring Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday during the offseason. Colin McCarthy of Boston.com thinks the Cs are trying to emulate the Golden State Warriors, the NBA’s last great dynasty, in order to create this star-studded quartet—which may become a five-piece if/when Derrick White starts receiving that notoriety for himself.

Tatum and Brown have made it to the finals once, but they’re still searching for the greatest prize that has eluded them, McCarthy said before stating that it appeared the Celtics wanted to follow (the Warrior’s) lead. Holiday and Porzingis may give them their greatest chance at the championship yet. A championship is what they are thinking about, not statistics.

The Warriors’ smooth integration of Kevin Durant into their former championship-winning core of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green to bring two championships to the Bay Area is the “model” being discussed. Golden State’s ability to win both before KD arrived and then just two seasons after he left is what made their dynasty so enduring and one that will be remembered for centuries.

Kristaps Porzingis is aware of the strategy the Boston Celtics will use to successfully combine four superstars.

To Porzingis’s credit, the first notable offseason acquisition before Holiday knows what it will take for the Boston Celtics to properly combine four elite players—Porzingis, Holiday, and the Jays—into one cohesive unit.

Porzingis began by stating, “That’s the thing about being on a strong team, everybody needs to sacrifice a little bit. That’s what you can see with this group. Everyone is ready to give up something for a greater good.
